创作背景
《America the Beautiful 美丽的美国》是一首诗歌，创造于1893，当时33岁的卫斯理教会学院英文教授Katharine·Lee·Bates，坐火车前往科罗拉多州，她应邀去科罗拉多州大学暑期讲课，在火车感动中，她创作了这首诗。后被教会风琴师Samuel·A·Ward 谱曲，成为现在不是国歌的国歌。昨天在奥巴马出席的波士顿恐怖爆炸追思礼拜上从电视上又一次听到，我清楚的记得911恐怖袭击发生后第三天，华盛顿国会山庄的台阶上，议员们不分党派站在一起高唱这首歌的情景。我非常喜爱这首歌，在困难中给人安慰，在低潮中给人鼓舞。
